Video Pill #5: Interview with Liana Amin Lima da Silva on Consultation Protocols and the Rights of Nature in Brazil

The fifth video pill features Liana Amin Lima da Silva, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Federal University of Grande Dourados. Conducted by Silvia Bagni in 2025 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, the interview delves into the role of participatory consultation protocols as tools for recognizing the Rights of Nature and engaging the Guaraní Kaiowá and Terena Indigenous communities.

During the conversation, Liana explains how ancestral practices and traditional instruments, such as the maracá, allow people to “consult Nature,” ensuring the protection of ecosystems and territories even in the face of threats like deforestation, mega-projects, and agricultural extractivism. The interview highlights the importance of autonomous consultation protocols in strengthening collective rights and promoting participatory processes that respect traditional knowledge.
