Project abstract

Our Sustainability Park takes place in the ex SIAPA site within the center of the town of Galliera. The location used to produce pesticides such as DDT, therefore leaving the area seriously contaminated with an expected cost of 1,898,706.58 euro, entailing remediation procedures. We will remediate and give this site back to the community of Galliera. We propose a transformation into an inclusive place for the community and potential visitors to gather and share ideas regarding sustainability with a special focus on farming procedures. This will be done through innovation and research towards the protection of the environment, which will be a call of action for the community within itself. Some of our innovative targets are:

  • Greenhouses based on Community Supported Agriculture which yield food production for Galliera and the site’s restaurant;
  • Hydroponics/ Aeroponics / Biomass;
  • Solar Panels (and other potential sources): run our place with clean energy and invest in local renewable industries;
  • Reclaiming/recycling of water;
  • Recycling safe materials for reconstruction;
  • Art expositions/performances: encouraging sustainable practices (social, economic or environmental).

We divided the site into 5 zones, connected through a network of pedestrian paths:

  1. Biomass: the farm and part of the theme park;
  2. Theme Park: big green area with amphitheater and nodes for interaction within the theme of applying sustainability within our daily lives;
  3. Commercial & social: includes the nodes along the pedestrian path, restaurant, hub, office building (corporate hospitality), open commercial expo area and the experimental lab;
  4. Farming: gardening facilities and workshop/research center;
  5. Utilities: water recycling facilities, monitoring lab and the in site green transportation station.
