Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development, located in Dortmund and Aachen, Germany studied architecture and urban design (Dipl.-Ing.) at RWTH Aachen University. She has got a track record in research on adaptation processes of the built environment and green infrastructure and is expert in the area of urban gardening. She chaired COST Action TU1201 “Urban Allotment Gardens in European Cities” (2012- 2016) and is co-editor and ca-author of the book “Urban Allotment Gardens in Europe” (Routledge, 2016), and partner coordinator of “FEW-meter”, funded the Joint Programme Initiative Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative (SUGI) with Horizon 2020.

He is Director of ICTA-UAB (www.icta.cat) and Professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering of UAB (www.uab.cat). He leads the research group on Industrial Ecology called Sostenipra (www.sostenipra.cat), and the Fertilecity project (www.fertilecity.com). He is an expert in Circular economy, urban agriculture, and  Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Dr Gabarrell i Durany has also been the Academic Secretary of the UAB Graduate School.

Full professor in Horticulture, former Director of the Master course in Agricultural Sciences at UNIBO, Director of Research Centre for the Urban Environment for Agriculture and Biodiversity (RESCUE-AB), Former Chair of the Landscape and Urban Horticulture Commission of the International Society of Horticultural Sciences (ISHS) and member of several international networks related to Urban Agriculture. Prof. Gianquinto has a long experience in coordination of international and National research and education projects. Teaching Vegetable crops at Bologna University, expertise on urban agriculture, plant nutrition, soilless systems. Editor of the book “Guide to Rooftop Agriculture” (Springer, 2017). Convenor of the 2nd Int conference on Landscape and Urban Horticulture (Bologna, 2009) and of the International Symposium on Greener Cities for More Efficient Ecosystem Services in a Climate Changing World (Bologna, 2017). Coordination of EU projects “Urban Green Train” and “Hortis”. Partner of FoodE (Food Systems in European Cities, funded under H2020-SFS-24 call). Served as expert/consultant in UA projects for FAO-UN (Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso). Experiences in UA projects in Africa (Burkina Faso, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cabo Verde), Latin America (Brazil, Peru) and SE Asia (Myanmar).
