Sustainability Reporting

The SuMM Lab is an observatory that analyzes the disclosure of sustainability practices in 3,928 Italian companies across various sectors and sizes. Launched in 2016, it has developed a database based on 69 KPIs across 11 thematic areas, collecting data from websites and reports between 2017 and 2020. The project aims to enhance sustainability measurement for both SMEs and large enterprises, providing valuable insights to businesses and policy makers to understand the drivers of disclosure and support sustainable development strategies.

The project is developed in collaboration with IFAB, SII (Transversal Research Group on Societal Implications and Impact), EmilBanca, BPER, CRIF, Confindustria Emilia Centro, and other academic institutions such as UniSalento and UniNa. The aim of the project is to develop a platform for ESG data analysis, leveraging innovative technologies, NLP, and LLMs. Operating within the framework of Spoke 9 and funded by the PNRR, the project seeks to interpret non-financial reporting statements and sustainability reports, ultimately generating actionable indicators and insights to support data-driven decision-making and deepen the understanding of sustainability practices and actions.

The “Sustainability Report Award 2022” was a partnership between RCS Media Group and Bologna Business School, aimed at assessing the quality of sustainability reports produced by Italian companies. Our role involved developing an evaluation tool and assessing the reports based on available standards and best practices.
