Marialetizia Carra

Researcher - Methodologies for Archaeological Research

Senior fixed-term researcher at the Department of History and Cultures, University of Bologna, her research focuses on archaeobotany, with particular interest in the analysis of plant remains (seeds and fruits) from archaeological contexts. She is a member of the staff at ArcheoLaBio – Centre for Bioarchaeological Research. In terms of teaching, she lectures on courses such as Environmental Archaeology and a module in Archaeological Research Methodology within the Single-Cycle Master's Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Ravenna.

Senior assistant professor - Prehistory and Protohistory

Senior fixed-term researcher in Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Bologna, Department of History and Cultures.
He is the director of the archaeological excavation at Monte della Croce (Gaggio Montano) and co-director of the excavation at Solarolo (Ravenna) together with Professor Maurizio Cattani. He is Principal Investigator of the MALTHUS project and a member of the CAST project. Among his teaching activities are Networks and Mobility in Archaeology and Research Methods and Topisc in Prehistory.

Antonio Curci

Full Professor - Methodologies for Archaeological Research

Antonio Curci is Full Professor at the Department of History and Cultures, University of Bologna. His research activity is primarily focused on bioarchaeology and archaeozoology, with particular expertise in human-animal relationships in antiquity, mammalian domestication, seasonality studies, and environmental reconstruction. He leads the field project of Casa delle Fate (Premilcuore) and co-directs the Aswan‑Kom Ombo Archaeological Project in Egypt. He is the scientific director of ArcheoLaBio – the Bioarchaeological Research Centre. In terms of teaching, he delivers courses such as Prehistoric Ecology and Zooarchaeology.

Francesco Iacono

Associate professor - Prehistory and Protohistory

Associate Professor in the Department of History and Cultures at the University of Bologna, he teaches, among other courses, Critical Approaches to Archaeological Theory, Mediterranean Archaeology, and Critical Archaeology and Heritage. He is also Principal Investigator of the Mediterranean Coastal Lifestyles project and director of the excavation at Torre dell'Alto (Lecce).

Andrea Picin

Researcher - BIOS-03/B Anthropology

Senior assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician", University of Bologna, his research focuses on Palaeolithic archaeology. He co-directs archaeological excavations in Spain and Poland and collaborates on research projects concerning the Middle Palaeolithic of the Iberian Peninsula and the Pannonian Basin. His work investigates the lithic technologies of hunter-gatherer groups from the Middle Pleistocene to the Holocene, integrating archaeological and paleogenetic data to reconstruct the repopulation dynamics of Central Europe from glacial refugia. He teaches Prehistoric Lithic Technology and Palaeolithic Archaeology.

Cristiano Putzolu

Researcher - Methodologies for Archaeological Research

Researcher at the Department of History and Cultures, University of Bologna, specialising in archaeological research methodologies. His work focuses on GIS, archaeological surveying, and digital applications in archaeology. His research interests include digital archaeology, landscape archaeology, and later prehistory. He is the director of the excavation at Ca' Nova di Albareto (Parma). In addition to teaching courses and workshops in digital archaeology, he also serves as director of the Digital Archaeology Laboratory – DArchLab.
