The state-run health sciences university in Bucharest, Romania, “Carol Davila” University Of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest (UMFCD) has more than 50 bilateral accords with prestigious universities from abroad. It is the largest institution of its kind in Romania with over 2.865 employees, 1.654 teachers and over 4.800 students. Key activities: medical higher education and research. The University uses the facilities of 35 clinical hospitals all over Bucharest, including “Elias” University Hospital. The hospital runs also under the tutelage of the Romanian Academy, the most prestigious scientific institution in Romania (http://www.acad.ro/). The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in Elias University Hospital (http://www.spitalul-elias.ro/) is one of the 22 departments in this more than 700 beds hospital. Since 2008, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is UEMS European Board Certified Training Centre for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine residents and specialists in Europe. The Department has 35 beds and serves also outpatients, treating more than 2000 patients per year and it is actively involved in higher education activities and in national and international rehabilitation medicine and technology research projects (www.spitalul-elias.ro/rehab-research/index.htm). Our pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions aim to reduce functional deficits and to improve the level of functional independence, activity and participation of our patients, adults with gait and ambulation disabilities, cognitive deficits based disabilities and occupational disabilities. Our areas of interest are: human motion and ergonomics, spasticity and pain, assistive technologies and rehabilitation robotics, cognitive rehabilitation and speech disorders therapy, biofeedback and sensing systems, balneology, health education and scientific education of young healthcare specialists.
MIHAI BERTEANU
He is University Professor in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) at “Carol Davila” University of Medicine, Bucharest, Head of the Rehabilitation Medicine Department at “Elias” University Hospital in Bucharest (since 2003). Professor Berteanu is the leader of the Elias Rehabilitation Medicine research activity. He is corresponding member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences (http://www.adsm.ro/ro/membrii+asm/membrii+corespondenti), former National Representative of PRM specialists at European Union of Specialist Physicians and Board Member of the European Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, of the International Society of Rehabilitation Medicine and of the World Federation of Neurological Rehabilitation as well as former President of the Romanian Society of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Prof Berteanu owns 5 national invention patents for devices for medical rehabilitation – one of them regarding a sensorized crutch for controlled loading of the lower limb after orthopedic surgery. M Berteanu is also author/coauthor of 17 books on rehabilitation medicine, and of many articles in national and international publications (22 articles indexed in ISI). He was Partner team leader and scientific investigator in 15 clinical trials, grants and other national and international rehabilitation research projects. He is MC Member in the COST Action CA16116 – “Wearable Robots for Augmentation, Assistance or Substitution of Human Functions” (2017-2020). Area of expertise: neurological and medical rehabilitation, neurophysiology and biofeedback.
ALINA ILIESCU
She is Senior Physical Therapist, PhD in Medical Sciences with a thesis on gait computerized analysis used forf unctional assessment in children with hemophilia and adaptations of physical therapy methodology for these patients. She is Coordinator of the Physical Therapy Unit of Elias Hospital and University Lecturer in Rehabilitation Medicine. She attended more than 20 national and international professional courses. She owns a national invention patent for a rehabilitation device. She published several ISI and other IDB scientific papers.
She was main investigator in clinical studies and member of research team in national and international projects. Main areas of interest: physical therapy, biofeedback – EMG, functional electrical stimulation, gait analysis.
ILEANA CIOBANU
She is Scientific Researcher Biologist Master in Neurobiology and PhD in Medical Sciences with the thesis:”Complex Mechatronic System for Gait Rehabilitation in Patients with Disabling Neurological Conditions”.
Participant in several national and international rehabilitation, robotics and architecture scientific events. Active member of the multidisciplinary research team in a number of national and international research projects (Is-Active AAL, RELIVE PN II, B&M-Vibe Bridge Grant, SENSE-GARDEN). More than 20 scientific papers published in ISI and other IDB journals. Areas of interest: rehabilitation technology usability, human ecophysiology.
ANDREEA MARIN
She is Clinical Psychologist, Ph.D. in Medical Sciences achieved at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Carol Davila” from Bucharest, with the thesis: ”Cognitive Optimization for Quality of Life Improvement in People with and without Post Stroke Aphasia”. She is member of professional associations: The Romanian Association of Clinical Psychology, The Romanian Association for Aphasia and The College of Psychologists from Romania. Main interests: aphasia, cognitive rehabilitation.
