Silvano Martello

Biography

Silvano Martello is Professor Emeritus at the University of Bologna.

He is author of the books Knapsack Problems: Algorithms and Computer Implementations (Wiley) and Assignment Problems (SIAM), and Editor of the books Annotated Bibliographies in Combinatorial Optimization (Wiley) and Meta-Heuristics: Advances and Trends in Local Search Paradigms for Optimization (Kluwer). He edited one volume of the Annals of Discrete Mathematics, six volumes of the Annals of Operations Research, and twenty special issues of international journals. He is author of over 200 publications.

In 2012 he was appointed IFORS Distinguished Lecturer. In 2018 he was awarded the EURO Gold Medal. He chairs the European Chapter in Combinatorial Optimization, and has been Vice-President of EURO. He is Editor-in- Chief of 4OR: A Quarterly Journal of Operations Research.
