OPH@DIFA - A new workspace for the contamination of ideas
The Open Physics Hub is a five-year project funded by the University of Bologna for the strategic development of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The aim of OPH is to promote excellence and innovation in all the activities that are pursued by the Department. These include higher education teaching, frontier scientific research, technology transfer, science outreach, and international academic relations.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) at the University of Bologna is characterized by a marked and consolidated multi-disciplinary approach, covering most of the research fields in physics. The Open Physics Hub provides both real and virtual workspace for the development of interdisciplinary projects and for the contamination of ideas and expertise sourcing from the different research sectors of the Department.
The OPH infrastructure consists of a central Hub - located in the basement of the DIFA building - furnished with individual desks and shared meeting rooms that provide direct access to an Advanced Sensing Lab equipped with innovative technology instrumentation, and remote access through a high-speed dedicated network to a High-Performance Computing cluster for modelling, simulations, and data analysis of various physical processes.
The Open Physics Hub is fully available for professors, researches, post-docs, PhD candidates and students with a project proposal to start or develop, and for the implementation of innovative teaching courses at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD level within the corresponding programs offered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The access policy to its instrumental and computational resources is established by the OPH Executive Board.
The Open Physics Hub is an initiative of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Bologna
