The Hub

The OPH is located at the Physics and Astronomy Department premises in Viale Berti-Pichat 6/2, Bologna. The main Hub is equipped with two meeting rooms and a common open-space area with desks and monitors, and allows direct access to the Advanced Sensing Lab. A set of computer terminals provide remote access to the High Performance Computing cluster "Matrix" and to the Data Analysis cluster "BladeRunner" which are hosted in the Tier-1 server room of the INFN-CNAF in the basement of the Physics and Astronomy Department building.

How to reach the Open Physics Hub

By Plane

Guglielmo Marconi International Bologna Airport (BLQ) is located about 6 km away from the city centre and is connected to all major European cities via national and international flights. The BLQ shuttle service “Aerobus” leaves every 15-30 minutes from the bus stop just outside the arrival terminal to the railway station of Bologna (Bologna Centrale) and to the city centre. The service starts at 5.30 a.m. and ends at 00.15 a.m.. Tickets can be purchased at the bus stop outside the airport, and a one-way ticket costs 6€. From the railway station, you can either walk to OPH (about 15 minutes, see map) or take a taxi (about 5 minutes).

Alternatively, you can take a taxi, which takes about 20 minutes to the city centre – and to OPH. Taxi fares from the airport are about 20-25€.

By Train

Bologna Centrale station is located at a strategic point of the national railway network. Hence, there are connections to all major national and international lines. You can check timetables at the Ferrovie dello Stato website and Italo website. From the railway station, you can either walk to OPH (about 15 minutes, see map) or take a taxi (about 5 minutes).

By car

Every motorway exits for Bologna leads to a ring road called “Tangenziale”, from which every destination in town can be easily reached. From the Tangenziale, take the exit n.7 (Centro – Via Stalingrado), which leads you to a large road (Via Stalingrado) pointing to the centre. Just after the fly-over Ponte Stalingrado, you reach the old gate called Porta Mascarella. There, turn left (around the gate) in Viale Berti Pichat. After 300 meters, just after the intersection with Via Ranzani on the left, you find the main entrance of the Department of Physics and Astronomy (Viale Berti Pichat 6/2) where OPH is located (see side map)
