Professor Silvia Bagni, coordinator of the LUMEN Project for the University of Bologna, will be the keynote speaker at two important events in Brazil dedicated to the Rights of Nature.

On September 4, 2025, at the Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados (UFGD), Bagni will deliver an Aula Magna lecture open to students, together with Prof. Vito Comar (UFGD, IMAD, NURB) as moderator and Prof. Liana Amin Lima da Silva (UFGD) as discussant. The lecture, organized within the graduate programs in Sociology and Anthropology / UFGD, will focus on the recognition of the legal subjectivity of nature, international experiences in agroecology, and the enhancement of the intergenerational dimension of law.

The second event will take place on September 8, 2025 in Campo Grande, at UFMS – Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Auditório do Instituto de Biociências, during the First State Seminar “Direitos da Natureza.” The seminar will bring together academics, institutional representatives, and environmental organizations. Speakers will include, in addition to Bagni and Comar, Áurea Garcia (Mupan), Liana Amin (UFGD/FADIR), Cyntia Cavalcante Santos (WWF), Henrique Fernandes de Magalhães (UFMS), and Elvis Terena (Funai). It is possible to participate via Zoom (see the poster below).

Within the framework of the LUMEN Project, Professor Bagni is working with Prof. Comar to support a legislative initiative in the Municipality of Dourados aimed at recognizing the rights of nature as a new legal and political paradigm.

These events represent an important step in strengthening the international network of research and advocacy on a crucial issue for the future of societies and for present and future generations.
