How to reach Bologna

Coming by plane

  • "G. Marconi" International Airport (BLQ)

    "Guglielmo Marconi" International Airport (BLQ) is located very close to the city center and offers direct flights to all European countries.

    The airport offers over 100 flight routes, including 84 international flights, 17 domestic flights, and 1 intercontinental flight. It serves as a hub for 43 different airlines, including 11 low-cost airlines (such as Ryanair, EasyJet, Wizz Air, and Vueling).

Reaching the city from the airport

The fastest and most convenient way to reach the city center from the airport is the Marconi Express. This electric monorail service connects “G. Marconi” Airport directly to Bologna Centrale Station. A one-way ticket costs €12.80. The monorail is modern, accessible, and equipped with free Wi-Fi. The service connects the airport and the city center in just 7 minutes with a train every 7 to 15 minutes. The service operates 365 days a year, from 5:40 AM to midnight.

Alternatively, you can also reach the city center by taxi. You will find the taxi stand at the exit of the "Arrivals" terminal. A direct ride from the airport to the city center costs between €20 and €25 on average and takes about 15–20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Coming by train

The Bologna Centrale train station offers a high-speed rail network with over 200 connections, located just a short distance from Italy’s major destinations.

Domestically, there are very fast and frequent services to Florence (68 daily connections), Milan (54 connections), Venice (42 connections), and Rome (48 connections).

Internationally, there are direct connections to several EU countries (Austria, France, Germany, and Switzerland).

  • Trenitalia

    Trenitalia is Italy's national railway company. It offers both standard and high-speed (Frecciarossa and Frecciargento) train services. You can use the official Trenitalia website to find and purchase both domestic and international train services by inserting "Bologna Centrale" in the Departure or Destination field.

  • Italo

    Another railway company offering affordable high-speed trains between Italy's major cities.

How to reach the conference venue

On foot

The conference venue is situated in the heart of Bologna and is easily reachable on foot from anywhere in the city center. Arriving on foot from the central train station takes around 30 minutes.

By bike

Reaching the venue from the central train station by bike takes around 10 minutes.

  • RideMovi

    By downloading the RideMovi app, you can find and rent shared electric bikes and scooters parked around the city.

By bus

Reaching the venue from the central train station by bus takes around 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

A standard urban ticket costs €2.30 (or €2.50 if purchased on board) and is valid for 75 minutes. For longer stays, you can opt for a 24-hour ticket (€9.00) or a CityPass (a carnet of 10 trips for €19.00).

You can purchase tickets through several methods:

- Contactless: simply tap your credit/debit card or smartphone on the green validators on board (the best fare is automatically applied).
- On-board machines: they accept coins only and do not provide change.
- Automatic ticket machines: located at major hubs like the Bologna Centrale Station, the Airport, and the Bus Station.
- Authorized retailers: you can buy tickets at shops called "Tabaccheria" in Italian, at newsstands, and at Tper points across the city.

Remember to validate your ticket every time you board or change buses!

By taxi

By taxi, the venue is reachable from the central train station in 10-15 minutes.
