The Polyglot Garden on the Forlì Campus
"The Polyglot Garden" is a project by the Sustainability Group of the Department of Interpreting and Translation at the Forlì Campus, renowned in the fields of specialised, inclusive and literary communication studies. It will centre on the gardens of the campus.
This multifaceted project responds to the cultural and social needs of society today. Specifically, it promotes teaching and research activities aimed at understanding and analysing both traditional and innovative approaches to knowledge management, within the linguistic and cultural diversity that characterises modern societies; it also aims to contribute to the quality of urban life through cultural events and activities for individuals and groups.
The first sub-project, "Calling trees by their name(s)", involves semi-visual panels set up around the park to be followed as in a treasure hunt so incorporating game-like elements to stimulate a greater knowledge of the environment that surrounds us and offer opportunities for language learning and metacommunicative reflection.
The educational and research activities will take an interdisciplinary approach to explore:
- the various aspects at the thematic core of the project: trees and gardens in literary works and art, the ecosystems present on the Campus, the history and design of green spaces, plant taxonomies, tree care (pruning etc.), environmental protection, forest therapy and, not least, the relationship we establish with the world around us through the names we give to things
- the potential and risks of new AI-based technologies for communication, with a focus on knowledge management and the management of mono-, bi- and multilingual communication flows.
