One of the main objectives of the EPM is to study the text of the Prophecies de Merlin in order to establish the textual relationships between the witnesses and the different editorial phases of the work, more or less motivated by historical and cultural reasons, as well as the links with other romances of the Arthurian cycle. Furthermore, we intend to investigate the text's links with the contemporary prophetic tradition in an attempt to interpret the political allusions contained in Merlin's predictions and explain their origin and references. The EPM therefore aims to describe the ways in which prophetic mechanisms structure the fictional romance narrative and the arrangement of medieval manuscripts.
The EPM website aims to provide information on the research activities of the team, as well as to make available useful informations and materials to all scholars interested in the texts and in the traditions of Merlin's prophethood. In the Corpus section it is possible to find descriptions of individual texts or individual text sections of larger works, which are the subject of research activities (Texts), as well as lists of witnesses with their links to digital resources available on web (Manuscripts) and an annotated bibliography (Bibliography).
The site is under construction and its contents are under constant implementation by editors and team members.
L'un des principaux objectifs de l'EPM est d'approfondir l’étude du texte des Prophecies de Merlin afin d'établir les relations textuelles entre les témoins et et les différentes phases éditoriales de l'œuvre, plus ou moins motivées par des raisons historiques et culturelles, ainsi que les liens avec les autres romans du cycle arthurien. En outre, l'objectif est d'étudier les liens du texte avec la tradition prophétique contemporaine afin d'interpréter les allusions politiques contenues dans les prédictions de Merlin et d'expliquer leur origine et leurs références. L'EPM vise donc à décrire la manière dont les mécanismes prophétiques structurent le récit romanesque et la mise en page des manuscrits médiévaux.
