    Information and search suggestions:

  • an exact search for individual words is not possible;
  • it is possible to insert the wild cards " % " and " _ " in the search key:

       " % " replaces any sequence of characters, of any length; the use of this character is particularly useful in the case of extended fields or containing words with significant spelling variations;

       " _ " replaces a single alphanumeric symbol; e.g., it can be usefully employed when searching for words with spelling variations in a single letter;

  • searching by collocation can only be done by entering V. or Z. followed by four numeric digits: e.g. V.0040; Z.0123; V.1470.

The Mauro Benedetti collection is composed of about 4,500 records divided into two series:

  • the V series consists of 12-inch discs and larger formats;
  • the Z series consists of 10-inch discs.

The collection is in excellent condition and is the subject of cataloguing and photographic campaigns carried out by the Laboratorio Musicale to document and quantify the entire holdings/heritage.

Benedetti managed the records and related data using Microsoft Access software from his very first purchases.

The database, therefore, built on the basis of the collector's information needs, allows to retrieve data mainly relating to singers, secondarily to works and/or songs, and finally to labels.

You can see below a preview of Benedetti's DB.

One of the laboratory's activities was to recover this information and reformulate it, again using Access, according to a structure based on more discographic lines of research.

The checking, correction and possible addition of data are still carried out using a work mask that allows operations to be performed at the “disc side” level: in other words, the discs are examined side by side and then by disc unit.

At the same time, a campaign to photograph the discs and their labels has been launched – currently underway – thanks to which it is possible to progressively correct the catalogue. However, the size of the collection has not yet allowed for the entire information content to be verified.

The catalogue, in its current state, has been made available online and can be searched using an advanced search form divided into: Track title, Performer, Author, Work, Label, Catalogue number, Matrix number, Location, Date of recording. Images of the discs are made available periodically, in order to progressively enriching the content.

The 💿 and 🔊 symbols signify that the disc sheet is provided with label images and/or audio file.

About the 19 cylinders, a LIST is available.
