Mauro Benedetti 1953-2019
He was born in Ravenna and he was a nurse. He has always been passionate about theatre and opera , and in the late 80s he began collecting records, particularly 78 rpm records. The collection was started with the desire to document the voices of the greatest, the ways in which Italian bel canto was performed and interpreted. He bought mainly in the local antique markets in Romagna and Bologna. He also made a large purchase in the early 90s in Paris.
The Benedetti Collection was acquired in July 2021 and consists of 6,000 items, 19 cylinders, gramophones and an Edison phonograph. We have a list of this collection compiled by Benedetti himself. It is currently being edited and updated.
Books and treatises on vocology were part of the collection that are now kept in Bologna, in the library of the Department of Arts (UniBo).
