The role played by digital platforms has now become crucial in the analysis of social and participation processes. Platforms in their meaning of walled garden provide their users with a series of affordances that make them both empowered and exploited. Furthermore, the growing hybridization of the physical and digital reality results into a complex ecosystem which is predominantly ruled by the logic of prosumerism.
This lecture, starting from an analysis of the prosumer literature, aims to describe and understand how the digitization and platformization processes lead to rethink the relationship between producer and consumer. The occurring events in the context of consumption are thus able to display the vanguard of what will progressively manifest itself in the metaverse.
