Alice Fubini attends the conference “Journalism studies meet practice” conference in Utrecht, 16-17 June 2022.

Following the main topic of the 2022 Section Conference of the Journalism Studies Section that focuses on journalism in digital transition, the draft paper shows the rise of hybrid practices based on digital media and digital data finalized to increase transparency and accountability of governmental institutions through the analysis of OPENPOLIS, an Italian non-profit foundation in which the entanglements between data journalism and data activism practices emerge strikingly.

The provisional results suggest that OPENPOLIS represents an emblematic example of what the author labelled as an “informative activism” initiative: a new form of activism that allows grasping the specific role played by hybrid actors located between data journalism and data activism fields of action.
