Fernanda Odilla presents her most recent research at the Corruption in the Global South Research Consortium symposium in New York City. Odilla's paper, co-authored with BIT-ACT country expert Germán Bidegain, shed light on two innovative civil society initiatives in Uruguay, focusing on campaign financing transparency.
Titled "Civil Society and Political Financing: When Transparency Is Not Enough to Fight Corruption," their article examines the impact of these initiatives on improving transparency and combatting corruption within the realm of campaign financing. Odilla and Bidegain highlighted the nuanced challenges and potential solutions for tackling corruption beyond mere transparency measures.
The 2023 symposium aims to discuss critical approaches to corruption and transparency. The two-day event is organized by the Corruption in the Global South Research Consortium in collaboration with the Sociology Department at the New School for Social Research. It will take place on November 19-20, 2023 in New York City.
The symposium is dedicated to the study of corruption and anti-corruption efforts in the era of neoliberalism and its historical antecedents. It provides a platform for scholars, experts, and researchers to exchange insights and strategies to combat corruption in the modern world.
