Designing the European medium-sized City.
Strategies and methods of analysis and design

In first Seminar of the European project ARCHEA (to be held at University of Parma) the international groups will show the results of the application of didactic and research planning and design methodologies according to a cultural complementarity that includes different aspects. Designing in the built according to an experimental methodological approach will be the topic of the contribution of the University of Parma, the design of the city in its different forms and meanings will be the theme deepened by the group of the University of Bologna, while the representatives of the other European partner universities of project they will report about the open spaces of the city and their contemporary mapping (Politechnika Slaska), the reading of the spatial phenomena of the city (RWTH) and the importance of natural spaces in the urban project in France (ENSA).
Among the speakers there will also be Michele Alinovi, Councilor for Planning and Development Policies for the Territory of the Municipality of Parma, Carlo Quintelli, Professor of the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma, Gino Malacarne, Professor at the University of Bologna, Giovanni Marras, Professor of the IuaV University of Venice, Valentina Orioli, Councilor of the Municipality of Bologna and Marcello Capucci, Director of the Urban Quality Service and Housing Policies of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Particularly interested in the ARCHEA project is Leonardi Spadi the delegate to the EUniverCities, a European network in which medium-sized cities and their universities work together.
The lectio “City, Life, Architecture” held from Klaus Theo Brenner, a Berlin architect who works according to the concept of a "city architecture" (stadtarchitektur), will conclude the Seminar.
On this occasion, an exhibition entitled "Designing the built. New models with integrated quality for the compact city" will be set up in the exhibition space of the Aule delle Scienze Building" result of a PhD program carried out with the Spinner2013 (EU funding) of the Emilia Romagna Region.
