On May 23, as part of the 21st edition of the Caprile Agrishow – “Roots and Wings”, organized by the “A. Cecchi” Institute of Higher Education in Pesaro and hosted in the enchanting setting of Villa Caprile, a seminar took place that successfully combined legal reflection and ecological awareness.
The featured speaker of the seminar, titled “Giving a Voice to the Planet: the Rights of Nature," was Professor Silvia Bagni, member of the University of Bologna research unit and coordinator of the LUMEN project. The event, organized at the invitation of Professor Tatiana Olivieri, engaged both students and teachers in a deep discussion about the paradigm shift needed to tackle today’s environmental challenges.
During her presentation, Professor Bagni retraced the origins of the concept of Rights of Nature, explaining how legal approaches are emerging globally that recognize rivers, forests, and other natural entities as subjects with legal rights. This evolution suggests a shift from a strictly anthropocentric vision—focused solely on human interests—towards an ecocentric one, where nature is seen not just as a resource to be protected for human benefit, but as an entity with intrinsic value.
This seminar was part of a rich and diverse program that ran from May 23 to 25, offering performances, concerts, tastings, exhibitions, and numerous moments of cultural exchange. The event sparked lively interest and generated meaningful debate among attendees.
