Animals in Comparative Public Law: Lecture by Dr. Silvia Zanini for High School Students

On 3 July 2025, the University of Trieste hosted the lecture Animals in Comparative and European Public Law, delivered by Dr. Silvia Zanini, research fellow in Comparative Public Law and member of the UniTs unit within the PRIN PNRR 2022 LUMEN project.

The event took place as part of the Summer Training Modules promoted by the University and involved 53 high school students. The lecture is part of the LUMEN project’s outreach activities, aimed at fostering legal reflection on the rights of nature, animals, and commons from a comparative perspective.

During the lesson, Dr. Zanini guided the students through an analysis of the main regulatory frameworks concerning animal protection within the European Union, with a particular focus on the issue of animal welfare in food labeling. She encouraged active debate on the role of public law in safeguarding sentient beings.
