For the first time, UNIBO and the École de Droit of Sciences Po join forces in a joint programme between Bologna and Paris dedicated to legal comparison

The thirteenth edition of the Course on Methodology of Legal Comparison is organised by the Centre for Latin American Studies of the University of Bologna, coordinator of the LUMEN project. The Centre was founded in 2013 by Lucio Pegoraro, drawing on the academic experience of scholars of Latin American History and Comparative Public Law within the Department of Political and Social Sciences.
In 2026, the course will be offered for the first time in collaboration with the École de Droit of SciencesPo, Paris, together with a team of comparative lawyers and specialists in legal critique. The programme will take place in Bologna during the first five days and in Paris during the following three days, with the possibility of attending online.
This is the first course entirely dedicated to the methodology of legal comparison, an area of great relevance for all professional careers targeted by the educational programme. The course deepens knowledge of specific instruments for the protection of rights through the comparative study of legal systems, the definition of models, and their circulation within rights-protection mechanisms at both national and supranational levels.
The course is aimed at legal professionals — including judges, lawyers, diplomatic personnel, and officials of national and local public administrations — as well as PhD candidates, master’s students, and professionals working in the public, private, and non-profit sectors in all areas of public and social policy.
Course dates:
The registration fee is 280 euros for online-only participation and 380 euros for in-person participation. The fee includes both in-person and online classes, access to the databases of the University of Bologna library system and to the legal library in Paris, as well as a final certificate from the University of Bologna (100 hours, 4 ECTS) and a joint certificate issued by SciencesPo and the Centre for Latin American Studies.
Applications must be submitted by 23:59 (CEST) on 25 May 2026, exclusively online through the University of Bologna website:
