Getting to Bologna

 

Passports & Visas

By Plane

By Train

Bologna is easily accessible by train. 

Bologna Central Station is the main Italian railway junction and connections are fast and frequent:

By Car

Bologna is easily accessible from the two major motorways linking the north to the south – the A1 and A14.

Getting around Bologna

Bologna city centre (the Old Town) covers approximately 4 sq km and can be explored on foot. Many of the city’s landmarks and attractions are within walking distance of each other, such as Basilica di Santo Stefano, the Archiginnasio Public Library, and the Two Towers, among others. The city centre is also home to a great choice of dining, shopping and nightlife entertainment options.

Taxis can either:

  • be hailed from the street or
  • from taxi ranks at the Piazza Maggiore or the train station

Public Transport

Bologna has an efficient bus service which runs daily from 06:30 to 19:00 (or 23:00 depending on the route).

Tickets can be purchased on the bus and allow you to change buses or make a return journey within 75 minutes. You must validate your ticket by punching the machine on the bus. Each punch gives you 75 minutes of travel.

Alternatively, the Citypass gives you 8 journeys or a Day Ticket is valid for 24 hours. Tickets can by purchased from tabacchi, bars, newspaper kiosks and self service ticket machines at the airport and railway station
