One Health Webinar: The Human – Companion Animal Bond

November 22th, 2024

One Health aspects of human companion-animal bond

Organised in partnership with  MSD Animal Health

November 22th, 2024
h. 12:00 - 13.30 CET
Online

Companion animals, such as dogs, cats, and others, are increasingly becoming life partners in households, both now and in the future. This shift is linked to improvements in people's health and well-being. While the benefits apply to everyone, they are particularly relevant for the elderly and for patients suffering from (mental) illnesses. However, the close bond between humans and animals also carries risks, especially in relation to zoonotic diseases.

This webinar will explore the One Health approach, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. It will focus on the positive effects of the human-animal bond and address the challenges that arise from it.

The webinar will be broadcast in three languages: English, Spanish, and Italian.

Una Europa’s approach to One Health

One Health is a recent global movement that promotes networked, ecological thinking about health. It recognises that the health of humans, animals, other organisms and the environment are inextricably intertwined with each other. Addressing major health challenges stemming from the complex interactions between humans, animals, plants and their ecosystems requires recalibrating previous conceptual and methodological repertoires and tightening multidisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration.

Una Europa’s approach to One Health aims to promote and consolidate transdisciplinary research, education and societal outreach initiatives across European and international partners, with the objective of better understanding, integrating and acting upon the complexity of health, social and ecological determinants. We advocate a global, holistic, and long-term approach to major health-related challenges, ultimately promoting the well-being of humans and animals in a sustainable and healthy environment.
