The University of Bologna is pleased to announce the approval of the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) project to establish a Joint Master's Programme in Applied Data Science. Accepted in February 2024, this project is a product of strategic collaboration among six partner universities within the Una Europa alliance. The project is developed by a team of professors from the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Self-Steering Committee of Una Europa.

We invite you to attend the project's official presentation, which will provide an in-depth overview of the objectives and plans for this innovative initiative. The aim is to create a joint Master’s degree offering interdisciplinary training in Applied Data Science.

The Erasmus Mundus Design Measures project on Joint Master in Applied Data Science – MADS - aims to tackle several crucial aspects for the European Union within the domain of data science and its applications. It underscores the overarching significance of data in modern societies and the necessity for specialized programs to prepare Europe for a data-driven era that offers both challenges and opportunities in many different domains.

The project’s objective is to design a high-quality two-year international joint Master’s programme of 120 ECTS by a Consortium of six Higher Education Institutions: Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), University of Bologna, University College Dublin, University of Helsinki, Leiden University, and Universitè Paris 1 Pantheon- Sorbonne.

The project aims to fill an existing gap in the European educational landscape by designing a curriculum and developing a joint specialized, transnational Joint Master's in Applied Data Science with new, innovative and interdisciplinary study tracks tailored to specific fields: Health, Behavioural Sciences, Sustainability and Cultural Heritage.

By conducting a large stakeholders consultation at EU level and beyond, the project proposes to reach and involve a wide community of stakeholders and to prepare a programme responding to stakeholders needs, societal and labor market challenges. By using a student-centred and challenge-based learning approach, the project seeks involving students and academics in addressing real-life problems within multidisciplinary teams enriching the educational experience and fostering collaboration with the private and public sectors.
