Aula Magna di Santa Lucia
Via Castiglione 36, Bologna

Entrance for graduating students: Via De' Chiari 25A

Aula Magna di Santa Lucia
is one of the most fascinating and atmospheric places in Bologna. Originally built as a church many centuries ago, it was later transformed into the ceremonial hall of the University of Bologna. Its history dates back to the 5th century, while most of the present structure was shaped between the 17th and 18th centuries.

The interior impresses visitors with its large nave, high ceilings, and solemn atmosphere, where art, history, and academic tradition come together beautifully. Over the years, the building served different purposes, including a military barracks and a gymnasium, before being carefully restored in the late 1980s.

Today, Santa Lucia is used for graduation ceremonies, concerts, lectures, and important cultural events. It stands as a symbol of the long academic tradition of Bologna, combining the elegance of an ancient sacred space with the vibrant intellectual life of the modern university city.
