Coordinator
Alessandro Martelli is a Full Professor of Sociology at the University of Bologna – Department of Sociology and Business Law, where he is a member of the PhD program Board in Sociology and Social Research. He teaches Sociology and Social Policy, and he also acts as scientific coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Social Rights (IRCSR), which is based in the same department. He has conducted research on transformations of social needs and welfare systems, covering issues such as Europeanization and multilevel governance of social policies, with a specific focus on policies against poverty, transition to adulthood, and work-family reconciliation.
Claudia Golino is a Full Professor of Public Law at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law. She is part of the PhD program Board in European Law, which she coordinated for three years (2016-2019). Her main research interests involve the cohesion policy, the evolution of small and medium enterprises' legal framework within the EU context, and public finance.
Emanuele Menegatti is a Full Professor of Labour Law at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law, where he is also a member of the Board of the PhD program in European Law. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of California, Hasting College of Law (San Francisco, USA) and Adjunct Professor at Curtin University Law School (Perth, Australia). His main fields of specialisation are Comparative and EU Labour Law. His main research interests include new forms of work in the gig/sharing/on-demand economy, minimum wage regulation and income support schemes.
Ilaria Pitti is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law, and ISA’s RC34 “Sociology of Youth” Organisational Secretary. After obtaining her PhD from the University of Bologna in 2014, she has been a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Örebro University (2016-2018). Youth studies are her main field of research, and her analytical perspective is influenced by sociology of everyday life, gender studies and subcultural studies.
Carlo Tovo is a Researcher (tenure track) in European Union law at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law. He combines an academic career with a long professional experience in the EU institutions. He has been a visiting researcher at the Universities of Strasbourg, Maastricht and Paris 2, and Adjunct Professor in France, Italy and China. His main research interests concern the EU institutional law and the relationship between the Union legal order and national legal orders.
Leonardo Battista is a Junior Assistant Professor of Labour Law at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law. He has been a visiting researcher at Lund University, Munster University and the University of Cordoba. He is an Appointed Expert for the European Labour Authority for Capacity Building programs. His main research interests are focused on European labour law, self-employment in Europe and undeclared work.
Stella Volturo is a Junior Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Business Law of the University of Bologna. She has been a visiting scholar at the Université de Lorraine, at the Max Weber Centre and at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Her research focuses on the fight against poverty, the protection of children's rights, and work-life balance from a gender perspective. She has recently been studying sustainability issues, exploring the links between environmental and social inequalities and the role of social work in this context.
Leonardo Pasqui is a Research Fellow at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law, where he earned a Ph.D. in European Law in 2023 with a dissertation on territorial inequalities in the EU. In September 2023, he was a visiting scholar at Jean Moulin University Lyon 3. Between April and May 2025, he was selected as a Stratego Visiting Researcher at the Law and Government Research Group of the University of Antwerp. His main research interests focus on territorial disparities and the relationship between gender and State architecture.
Natalia Tosoni is a Doctoral Candidate in Sociology and Social Research at the University of Bologna – Department of Sociology and Business Law, and, in September 2025, she has obtained a research collaboration assignment at the inter-university consortium Almalaurea. She has been a visiting scholar at the University of Utrecht, in the Netherlands, and at the Population Studies Center of the University of Pennsylvania, in the USA. Her research interests are linked to the transition to adulthood, youth and women's studies, and social policies.
Francesca Neyroz is a Doctoral candidate in European Law at the University of Bologna - Department of Sociology and Business Law. Her research interests include the relationship between fundamental rights and urban space in the European framework and the impact of new technologies on the enjoyment of fundamental rights. She is also concerned with environmental justice and the gap, in this field, between the global north and south.
