Prof. Claudio Paolucci

Principal Investigator and Coordinator of UNIBO Unit

Claudio Paolucci is Full Professor of Philosophy and Theory of Language at the Department of Philosophy and Communication of the University of Bologna, where he teaches Semiotics and Philosophy of Language. He is also the coordinator of the PhD Programme in Philosophy, Science, Cognition and Semiotics.

Since 2014, he has been the scientific coordinator of the International Centre for Humanities "Umberto Eco". Since 2023, he has been the President of the Italian Society of Philosophy of Language. 

His research is focused on Semiotics, Philosophy of language, Semantics, Theory of Cognition and Cognitive Sciences, Semiotics of Audiovisual Languages, Theory of Enunciation and Subjectivity, Enculturation, Social cognition and Disabilities (with a special focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders).

Prof. Aldo Gangemi

Member of UNIBO Unit

Aldo Gangemi is Full Professor at the University of Bologna. From November 2019 until November 2023, he served as the Director of the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of CNR, where he founded the Semantic Technology Laboratory  in 2008. His research integrates methods from the Semantic Web, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, and Cognitive Sciences, with a focus on the representation and discovery of knowledge patterns in data, text, and other contents, and applications in Humanities, Cultural Heritage, Medicine, Law, Agriculture, etc.

Prof. Stefano Bartezzaghi

External Member of UNIBO Unit

Stefano Bartezzaghi is Associate Professor of Corporate Communication (teaching Semiotics) and Public Relations and of Communication, Media and Advertising (teaching Languages of Contemporary Creativity) at IULM University. He is part of teaching staff of Research Doctorate in Visual and Media Studies. He is a member of the Department of Humanistic Studies.

Prof. Giampaolo Proni

Member of UNIBO Unit

Giampaolo Proni is Associate Professor of Semiotics at the University of Bologna, Department of Life Quality Studies. He teaches in programs on fashion (CdL CLAM and FAST International Master) in the Rimini campus. His first field of research is the philosophy and semiotics of Charles S. Peirce. Other research interestes are in applied semiotics, specifically qualitative analysis of urban spaces, consumption behaviour and fashion shopping. His main research activity, from 2009, has focused on semiotics of design, in the attempt to unify functionalism and symbolism in the light of pragmaticism. 

Dr. Flavio Valerio Alessi

Flavio Valerio Alessi is a Research Fellow funded by SACre-D. Graduated in Semiotics from the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna he is a Unibo PhD student for the Psychology, Science, Cognition, and Semiotics (PSCS) course.

His research interests include interpretive semiotics, with a focus on the problem of the current lack of trust towards experts, and cognitive semiotics, with a focus on autism spectrum disorders. He took part in the European Project NeMo (NEw MOnitoring guidelines to develop innovative early childhood education and care (ECEC) teachers curricula).

Dr. Francesca Borriello

Francesca Borriello is a Research Fellow associated with the 'SACre-D' project. With a degree in Digital Humanities (University of Bologna), her research encompasses the digitization of cultural heritage leveraging AI, the semantic web and linked data, the extraction and organization of knowledge.

Ph.D. Luigi Lobaccaro

Member of UNIBO Unit

Luigi Lobaccaro is a post-doc researcher at the Department of Philosophy and Communication at the University of Bologna. His main research interests are in the areas of Interpretive and Cognitive Semiotics, 4E Cognitive Sciences, and Psychopathology. Specifically, his work focuses on the sense-making processes in schizophrenia, including the study of schizophrenic language, the relationship between schizophrenic narratives and embodied experience, and the cognitive semiotics of delusions.
