Research topics

One of the strategic aspects of this project aims at creating «innovative teaching tools», online and offline, in which technologies contribute to reconstruct and document, from inside, the creation processes adopted by artists for their works, in the field of performing arts, thus providing the user with new methodological perspectives.

A second goal concerns the field of research-creation, in which technologies build a direct relationship with the performer's body. These technologies are conceived as devices to explore and extend the perception – and therefore the imagination – of dancers and actors (biofeedback), allowing them to elaborate new gestural scores. Overturning this perspective, another point of interest – connected to the aesthetic sphere of the scenic co-presence of robots and human performers – is the transfer of encoded theatrical techniques in the robotic body to assess the permanence or alteration of their efficacy due to the technological constraints of the artificial body.

A third purpose of the project is to map the most relevant theatrical performances focused on the figure and the use of humanoid or android robots to highlight the different approaches for the scene and the modifications of the common imagination as regards the automated future.

Another goal of the project is to investigate the reactions and perceptions of the audience during the staging of performances, performance-lectures or presentations involving robots as performers. The methodological tools used for data collection are participant observation, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews.
