Congratulations to Dr. Victor Amir Cardoso Dorneles on his brilliant PhD defense !!

Dr. Victor Dorneles defended his Ph.D. thesis in March 2025, titled “Biosignatures from extreme environments as targets for astrobiological exploration”,  under the supervision of Professor Barbara Cavalazzi (BiGeA, University of Bologna) and Dr. Keyron Hickman-Lewis (Birkbeck, University of London). 

During his defense, Victor Dorneles presented innovative research on the identification and interpretation of traces of life in modern extreme terrestrial lacustrine deposits, demonstrating their critical importance for astrobiology. His work opens new pathways to better understand life’s adaptation in harsh environments, both on early Earth and Mars 🔬🌍🪐 

He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the GECO₂ group at LAGSED, Geologia Sedimentar, UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
