The Cluster of Research Excellence on Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities launched the Cluster of Excellence on Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CoRE), with the purpose to build a multi- and transdisciplinary research capacity and network between European and African academic and research institutions with the following long-term ambitious objectives.

Aims

- Establish a lasting dialogue and co-learning process and strengthen partnerships between EU and AU Universities in the field of NbS and Climate;
- Setup actions for the co-design and validation of NbS;
- Setup actions to widen the meteorological and NbS monitoring network and facilitate the deployment of early warning and impact monitoring systems;
- Advance fundamental research on climate change and variability including impacts to ecosystem services;
- Support the development of end-to-end, user-oriented climate services, including in relation to the One Health and NbS concepts;
- Establish a distributed training infrastructure and foster multi-level policy dialogue.
