I had the honor of delivering a presentation titled "The Behavior of Volatile Binding Media Applied in Cultural Heritage Object's Consolidation" at the Centre Interdisciplinaire de Conservation et de Restauration du Patrimoine (CICRP) in Marseille, France, on May 23, 2023. This presentation showcased the experiments and findings of the VOLATILE4ARCHAEO project.

I had the privilege of participating in the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) held in Jacksonville, Florida, from May 16th to May 20th, 2023. The focus of my presentation was "Scientific Characterization of Alternatives to Cyclododecane: a Technical Study of Volatile Binding Media for Temporary Consolidation of Cultural Heritage."

During the initial applications of selected Volatile Binding Media (VBM) on the painted surfaces in Chapel Notre-Dame in Beaumont de Pertuis, France.

IPERIONHS-ARCHLAB facility

Dr Hamada Kotb got access to the National Institute of heritage archive in Romania. The visit includes access to physical and digital data collections. Furthermore, visit Doamnei church, Stavropoleos Monastery Church, Hurezi Monastery, and conservation laboratories, National University of Arts in Bucharest. The trip is part of the project Effectiveness of historical murals techniques on conservation that the IPERION HS-ARCHLAB has granted.

The ICCROM visitOn 14 December 2021, Hamada Kotb has visited the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property ICCROM in Rome. The visit was designed to enable the ER to visit the Mora sample collection, the laboratory, the library. The visit was managed by María Mata Caravaca the Manager, Records, and Archives, Strategic Planning Unit in ICCROM.

Health and Safety training

Health and Safety training

Hamada Kotb began the activities of training with the Health and safety course. According to the Consolidated Safety Act (Legislative Decree 81/08), the course is compulsory for all researchers and students at the University of Bologna who for study or research purposes work in laboratories, workshops, experimental fields, archaeological excavations, and all other workplaces that present specific risks. The course is organized on the E-learning platform website.   

 

Kick-off meeting

The kick-off meeting takes place on 27 October 2021, with Prof. Elisa Franzoni, at Bologna, Italy. The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the management and implementation of the project.
