The proposed research activity focuses on additive manufacturing processes. Specifically, the research will be aimed at optimizing the production of high-pressure injectors obtained through laser powder bed fusion to meet precise technical requirements. The research will involve both numerical (analytical and finite element models) and experimental activities. The study will entail the mechanical characterization of tubular elements under (at least) biaxial loading conditions, including static and fatigue tests. Variations in specimen dimensions and printing strategies will be explored to optimize the manufacturing process. If the candidate is not already experienced in the field, the initial part of the research will be dedicated to the bibliographic analysis of existing literature on laser powder bed fusion and laser-material interactions (Rosenthal and Goldak analytical models). Subsequently, methods for optimizing the printing system will be analysed, ranging from modifications to scanning strategies to adjustments of the laser source parameters. The methods and process modifications developed will be verified through a series of appropriately designed mechanical tests. Furthermore, a final comparison (in terms of mechanical properties, quality and productivity) between printed products and similar ones obtained by using traditional manufacturing processes will be carried out. The research field in which the candidate will be working belongs to the academic discipline ING/IND 16- Manufacturing Technologies and Systems.
Both Italian and English.
Specific prerequisite skills are not required, but expertise in statistical analysis of experimental data, finite element modelling, and additive manufacturing processes is highly recommended.
