The research group is working on the dynamic security of large electric networks, like the Italian 400/230 kV grid, or the European grid. In particular, the research activity is relevant to the evaluation of angle security, which involves the evaluation of the overall inertia of the power system. This is one of the main issues with reference to the decarbonization and the growing contribution of inertialess, inverter-based sources of electricity. Given that wind or photovoltaic power are connected to the grid by means of power converters, the contribution to the stability of th system must be evaluated by means of measurements coming in real-time by Phase Measurement Units installed on th system. The output of such measurements must be elaborated in real-time to assess the power system stability.
The candidate should be familiar with dynamics and control of power system. He/She should be able to manage dynamic simulations and optimization algorithms by Matlab, GAMS or a similar programming language.
