The research will focus on investigating and comparing different novel integrated approaches for the decarbonization of industrial processes. 1. The exploitation of waste heats with innovative configurations of steam zeolite adsorption heat pumps is a very promising option for the production of useful high pressure steam starting from low temperature cascades. Mathematical modelling and experimental testing of some different solutions will be carried out with the aim to optimize the integration of heat pumps in some industrial processes, which are characterized by heat cascades, such as paper, food, foundries, textile. To this purpose, two full scale test-rigs of different configurations of adsorption heat pumps are available for the experimental validation of modelling and for their performance assessment. 2. The integration of renewable power sources, such as concentrating solar power and biomass gasification, will be investigated as valuable option for the processes decarbonization. 3. In order to further abate the carbon dioxide emissions, the feasibility and overall efficiency of the adoption of electrification solutions within industrial processes for the direct heat production and for the green hydrogen generation and its exploitation as energy vector will be analysed. The activities will be carried out in collaboration with companies.
