Department of Civil and Building Engineering, and Architecture (DICEA)

Main research activities/topics/projects

The research consists of studying the nonlinear dynamics of various mechanical systems and structures, with applications in civil and mechanical engineering, as well as other fields of science and engineering.

After an appropriate modelling, the dynamics will be investigated by means of analytical methods (when possible) and by numerical simulations, with the goal of detecting the main dynamical phenomena (nonlinear resonance, internal resonance, multistability, chaos, dynamical integrity, etc.).

The long-term goal is to avoid unwanted nonlinear phenomena, from the one side, but also to exploit them in certain applications where they can contribute to the technological development, from the other side.

The project is valid for Master, PhD and PostDoc students, with a different level of deepening.
