Main research activities/topics/projects

Multiphase fluid mechanics is common in a wide spectrum of engineering applications and environmental processes: examples include fluid transport in pipelines, filtration systems, pulp and paper making, drug delivery devices, marine and atmospheric pollutant dispersion. Our group has been working on the multiscale characterization of multiphase dispersed flows in close connection with industrial partners, public institutions and international research networks. Primary objectives of our research is to combine state-of-the-art numerical and experimental research tools to improve physical understanding of heat, mass and momentum transfer phenomena and to use fundamental knowledge for developing reliable and accurate phenomenological predictive models. Examples of recent research projects include: numerical simulation of microplastic dispersion in turbulent environments, numerical simulation of froth flotation processes, numerical simulation of particle-laden compressible turbulence, experimental investigation of drag reduction in pipelines.
