Main research activities/topics/projects

Physics Department in collaboration with Environmental protection Agency is studying innovative techiniques to implement noise mapping in urba areas according to the CNOSSOS method issued by 49/2002/CE Directive. Noise modelling is carried out by means of commercial software (Soundplan) but also using open source software. Dynamic noise mapping is developed using:

  • traffic flow cameras and AI software to categorize vehicles;
  • appropriate sound power for each kind of vehicle; big data by Google API to estimate traffic flow by arrival times to cover lacking data;

  • traffic flow open source simulation model, as SUMO, to produce a georeferenzied traffic flow map.
