Auxetic Metamaterials

  • What it is

Mobility experience with a research focus

  • Who it’s for

Master students involved in the final research; PhD sandwich; Post Doc

Department

Department of Engineering Sciences and Methods (DISMI)

Main research activities/topics/projects

The main area of research concerns the study of mechanical metamaterials with a negative Poisson’s ratio. The group is currently focusing on several aspects of this field and the candidates can work on the following topics:

  1. Design of Tessellation-based Metamaterials
  2. Lightweight Hierarchical Metamaterials
  3. Influence of Disorder in Metamaterials
  4. Perforated Metamaterials for High-Strain Applications

Work will be carried out using Analytical modelling, Finite Element Simulations and experimental tests on 3D-printed samples. Projects are available for Master, Ph.D. and Post-Doc level candidates.

Working language

Both English and Italian

Special entry requirements

Prior experience in Finite Element Simulations, Computer-Aided Design and Programming is considered a plus but is not necessarily required.

Duration in months (min-max)

Master Research: 3-12

PhD sandwich: 3-12

Post Doc: 3-12
