On March 13, the seminar The Environment Between Anthropocentrism and Biocentrism was held at the University of Florence, led by Professor Silvia Bagni, coordinator of the LUMEN project for the research unit of the University of Bologna. This event, part of the EVE – Exchanging Visions of the Environment project, provided an important opportunity for discussion on ecological constitutionalism and new perspectives in environmental protection.

EVE, organized by the School of Political Science of the University of Florence in collaboration with the Department of Legal Sciences, aims to foster dialogue and mutual learning between Africa and Europe on environmental protection. The project is based on an innovative educational approach that focuses on case studies to develop shared solutions to common challenges.

As part of this initiative, three LUMEN events are being organized, including the lecture by Professor Silvia Bagni. Her speech focused on the relationship between anthropocentrism and biocentrism in environmental law, with particular attention to the theoretical foundations of ecological constitutionalism. During the seminar, she presented significant examples of environmental protection, focusing on two emblematic case studies: Ilva in Taranto, Italy, and the recent recognition of Mar Menor in Spain as a legal entity.

The event featured active participation from students and researchers, who had the opportunity to explore environmental protection issues through direct engagement with field experts. Additionally, through a video connection, the IPSIA ACLI team in Italy and Kenya, along with a representative of the Laikipia Permaculture Centre Trust, presented a development cooperation project aimed at improving climate adaptation and mitigation, with special attention to gender-based discrimination.

The seminars within the EVE project, in collaboration with the LUMEN Project CSAL, will continue with new events on March 20 with Rachele Cecchi and March 27 with Silvia Zanini.
