On November 19-20, 2024, the LUMEN Conference will be held in Florence, an hybrid event dedicated to law students at the beginning of their careers, taking place both online and in-person at the University of Florence. The main theme of the meeting is "Law of nature and human ecosystem approach: modelling a transcultural ecolegal framework."
The conference aims to address current ecological crises, highlighting the importance of a paradigm shift towards a holistic view of the relationship between humans and nature. Through various sessions, discussions will explore how ecosystem approaches and legal principles can serve as a foundation for a global legal system that integrates diverse cultural and normative traditions.
The event will feature high-level experts such as Michele Carducci from the University of Salento, Federica Costantini from University of Bologna, and Ramiro Ávila Santamaría from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar-Sede Ecuador , each contributing significantly to the debate, along with additional speakers selected through the LUMEN call for papers in recent months, and the Principal Investigators of the LUMEN project: Silvia Bagni from the University of Bologna, Veronica Federico from the University of Florence, and Serena Baldin from the University of Trieste.
This conference represents an important opportunity for reflection and exchange on how law can contribute to credible and sustainable governance of our global ecological system, addressing current challenges and promoting a more integrated protection of nature.
