On November 9, 2024, the CLIMAVORE and LUMEN projects are coming together at the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome for a thought-provoking event titled "Cultivating Rights of Seeds." This gathering will bring together farmers, legal experts, and activists to explore the legal recognition of unregistered seeds and the future of seed sovereignty.
The event, organized within the recent collaboration launched between CLIMAVORE and LUMEN, aims to bridge the gap between culture and agriculture, with discussions centered on local agroecological practices and Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS). Key case studies from Tuscany, Sicily, and other regions will highlight innovative laws that support biodiversity and small-scale farmers.
Throughout the day, working groups will explore legal frameworks and strategies to embed seed rights into regional and national laws. Topics include the challenges of seed naming, the circulation of unregistered seeds, and the role of "environmental custodians" in protecting biodiversity.
Join us for a day of engaging dialogue and collaboration as we envision a future where unregistered seeds can freely circulate, fostering agricultural diversity and community-driven seed sovereignty.
