The Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Bologna will host Professor María Mercedes Ortiz García, a professor of Administrative Law and Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Law at the University of Alicante, for a visiting research period in collaboration with the LUMEN project, from May 29 to June 30.

Holding a doctorate in Law awarded with an extraordinary distinction in 2002, Professor Ortiz combines her academic work with a strong commitment to promoting a legal culture oriented towards the common good and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Her main research areas focus on Environmental Law (marine and terrestrial biodiversity, renewable energies and climate change, land-use planning and landscape, agroecology, cultural conservation of nature, among others) and Economic Analysis of Law (governance, economy of the common good, public procurement, “common goods,” local Administrative Law, primary sectors, rural development), based on the responsible management of common goods and the understanding of Administrative Law as the law of public policies (inclusive and environmental).

Author of monographs and numerous scientific articles, she has also conducted research at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and the University of Coimbra, collaborating with public institutions on environmental and maritime policy development. Her approach is grounded in the concept of Administrative Law as the law of inclusive and sustainable public policies.

During her stay, Professor Ortiz will be available by appointment for online deep-dive sessions with students on key topics such as common goods, participatory governance processes, and Climate Assemblies. Sessions will be held Monday to Friday, from 11 am to 1 pm. To book, please write to: merce.ortiz@gcloud.ua.es.
