On January 6, 2025, Andares: Revista de Derechos Humanos y de la Naturaleza, published by the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador Campus, released its seventh issue, titled "Human Rights and Nature’s Rights: Challenges 15 Years After the Montecristi Constitution."
The new issue of Andares covers a variety of topics related to human rights and nature, exploring both theoretical and practical approaches. The articles discuss nature as a subject of rights, with reflections on "integral reparation" and governmental rationality, as well as the impacts of mining activities on ecosystems. The category of "subject of the law" is also analyzed from an anti-racist perspective, while the rights of transgender children are examined in the context of the Amada case in Ecuador. The issue also includes reflections on Ecuador's constitutional jurisprudence regarding the right to migrate. Additionally, the interviews explore nature's rights and the role of social movements in Ecuador, while the reviews delve into Andean and Amazonian epistemologies, focusing on indigenous concepts of knowledge and wisdom.
Andares promotes academic reflections and publishes unpublished results of essays and research written in Spanish and English, incorporating various perspectives, disciplines, and practices on human and nature rights, highlighting their interdisciplinary, critical, complex, contextualized, and ever-evolving nature.
