The style of a cultural artefact is an element with profound significance. Talking of style goes beyond mere belletrism or ornament. Style has always brought with it profound cultural and ideological implications, with its power to give shape to – while at the same time calling into question - our vision of the world and of what is human. The choice of style in communication is linked to the disruptive power innate in art and languages to change how we look at social and cultural phenomena, converting onto the formal plane visions, anxieties and desires that trace paths and create possibilities for a future different from the present.
With this in mind, the fourth Summer School, organised by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures as part of the activities of the Project of Excellence, focusses on style in literary, media and cultural communication in the broad sense, for the purpose of prompting an interdisciplinary and transversal reflection across literature, specialised discourse, translation and linguistics.
The residential Summer School will be held at the Bertinoro conference centre from 21st to 24th June and will play host to a limited number of students, selected by the School’s scientific committee. The students will be given half board accommodation (room plus lunch) for the duration of the event, as well as a certificate of participation. The school will include plenary lectures by nationally and internationally acclaimed writers, translators, linguists and critics, as well as practical workshops in small groups. The languages of the Summer School are Italian and English.
