Call for participation - compulsory

Applications are open for student participation in the Summer School “Questions of Style: Bridging Literature, Linguistics and Translation” organised by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures as part of the activities of the “Department of Excellence project 2018-2022”. The in-person Summer School will be held in Bertinoro from 21st to 24th June 2022. Students who are selected will be given half-board (bed, breakfast and lunch) at the University Residential Centre at Bertinoro (CEUB) for the duration of the Summer School. On completion they will be issued with a certificate of participation. Lectures will be held in Italian and English.

Participating students should plan to arrive on 20th June and leave on 24th June. As specified in the programme, works will begin on the morning of the 21st and conclude in the afternoon of the 24th. The Summer School consists of 6 plenary lectures given by scholars of international acclaim, as well as 4 practical workshops. It will conclude with a poster session featuring work produced by the students, and a final discussion.

The Summer School focusses on style in literary, media and cultural communication in the broad sense, for the purpose of prompting an interdisciplinary and transversal reflection across literature, specialised discourses, translation and linguistics. The choice of this theme is linked to the disruptive power innate in art and languages to change how we look at social and cultural phenomena, communicating visions, anxieties and desires that trace paths and create possibilities for a different future.  On the basis of a motivational letter, we will be selecting 30 PhD and Masters students interested in these topics. Students wishing to apply must fill in the application form at the following link:
