Overview

Law in Chinese project organizes, in cooperation with the Confucius Institute of the University of Bologna, an intensive course on “Legal English & Legal Chinese”, with a special focus on Contract law.

The course is structured in 8 classes of intensive learning and designed to enhance participant’s English and Chinese communication skills in the field of contract law and give them greater confidence in dealing with foreign companies colleagues and clients.

Addressed to

Students in law, political science and economics and students in Chinese language; Practicing lawyers; Trainee lawyers; Academic lawyers with an interest in comparative law.

Subjects covered

  1. Negotiation techniques. Key vocabulary and legal grammar. The essential legal requirements to form a contract (in Common law; in Chinese and Hong Kong legal systems and international practice)
  2. The Agreement. Contract in general & special contracts (sale, agency, mortgage). (in Common law; in Chinese and Hong Kong legal systems and international practice).
    1. Performance and Termination of Contracts, frustration, breach. Remedies. Punitive damages (in Common law; in Chinese and Hong Kong legal systems and international practice).
    2. ADR: Arbitration and Mediation (in Common law; in Chinese and Hong Kong legal systems and international practice).
    3. Practical experience. Negotiating and drafting a contract.

The part of the course focused on more practical skills (meeting skills, negotiation skills and contract drafting) is divided in two tracks: for those who do not have any knowledge of Chinese and those who have a basic knowledge of Chinese language. For the first group (who do not have any knowledge of Chinese lan- guage) the topic will be covered in English and completed by a general introduction to Chinese language. For the second group the topic will be covered both in English and in Chinese.

Tuition fees
