University of Reggio Calabria in colaboration with a pig farm located in Biondo Caterina (Cardeto, Reggio Calabria) conducts experimental activities in order to evaluate possibility of an integrated system (formed by anaerobic and aerobic lagoons and constructed wetlands) to be used for farm wastewater treatment and energy production. Experimental system consists of:

  • 1 accumulation tank of 264 m3 (Figure 1)
  • 4 basins (1,5 m3 each) equiped with aeration system with specific power of 1-10 W m-3 (Figure 2)
  • 2 constructed wetlands (2 m2 each) with inflow and outflow inspection wells (Figure 3)

The experimental activity should enable COD and N removal at two different influent recirculation rates.
