Expected research outcomes

The project's ultimate deliverable will be a thick surface wave barrier meticulously engineered to function within the low-frequency range (10-80 Hz) characteristics of train-induced vibrations. The barrier can mitigate the transmission of surface waves generated by passing surface trains.

Here is the list of main project outcomes:

  • Thick locally resonant wave barrier able to attenuate surface waves generated by as a new mitigation measure for train-induced vibration.
  • Analytical tools to predict dispersive features of surface waves interacting with a thick resonant barrier.
  • 3D Numerical models of the thick resonant wave barrier.
  • A small-scale prototype of a thick resonant wave barrier
  • Design guidelines for real-scale barriers engineered to mitigate railway-induced surface waves.
