The project teams reviewed the first results from the geometrical, mechanical and microstructural characterization of dot-by-dot WAAM single rods and discussed the next manufacturing activities.

The Month 16 meeting of the DoTPOWER project was held online between the research teams of the University of Florence and the University of Bologna. The meeting provided an opportunity to share updates on the characterization of the single rods and assess the progress of the experimental activities.
The University of Bologna presented the results of the geometrical characterization conducted through 3D scanning. The analyses focused on cross-sectional variation, lack of straightness and surface roughness. The limited geometrical variability and the good agreement with the target dimensions demonstrated the geometrical accuracy and repeatability of the investigated dot-by-dot WAAM process.
The mechanical characterization included both tensile and compression tests. The results showed a consistent mechanical response and performance in line with the requirements of structural applications. The microstructural analyses highlighted the layered and directionally oriented morphology typical of the dot-by-dot WAAM deposition process, supporting the interpretation of the observed mechanical behaviour.
The University of Florence research team also presented the deposition strategies developed for fabricating rod intersections. These strategies were investigated and subsequently will be adopted for the next production batch, consisting of unit cells manufactured using the dot-by-dot WAAM deposition strategy.
